Who I am

I have been training toward my Professional Certification in Positive Reinforcement with Shawna Karrasch Equine for the last year. Learn more about that program, its requirements, professional standards and Shawna and Jessie here. www.shawnakarrasch.com

I have found that by using the essential skills of the default position, liberty leading, targeting, the stay, stationary targeting, sending to target and the reverse round pen; the horses in my care have developed a deep connection with me, a wide berth of skills and most importantly emotional resilience.

While working on these skills we weave in and develop other skills both functional and fun. I aim to increase the connection and deepen the communication between horse and handler so that both can grow.

Others might first notice in a horse its confirmation, color, swirl patterns, a settled presence, or a myriad of other qualities. I feel an almost insatiable pull to ask the next right question that will lead to clarity, growth, and trust. Where is the horse struggling? Where is the horse thriving? What will make the horse feel safe enough to try?  I feel that a focus on slow expectations using R+ is not only best for the horse, but for the human/ horse connection as well. By God’s Providence, I share hearth, home and 15 acres in Michigan with my true visionary of a husband, many children, four Standardbred mares, a Standardbred gelding, dogs, cats, and too many chickens.
